Look Five Pounds Thinner!
May 20, 2010 | From: Workchic.com
Who can't stand to lose a few pounds especially with summer right around the corner? We've got a cheat sheet for you on how to look slimmer at work. Bonus? No breaking a sweat involved. We loved the book, How to Never Look Fat Again by Charla Krupp since it had a lot of great tricks for seeming slimmer.
Borrowing a few clues from her pages and making them our own, we've got five tips to look five pounds thinner instantly!
1. Don’t wear baggy clothes because you are: a) too lazy to get something tailored or b) want to camouflage a few pounds. It will only make you look bigger. Accent and play up your best feature. Maybe it's your small waist or enviable Michelle Obama arms.
A wrap dress or a sleeveless sheath dress is perfect for hotter weather! Diane von Furstenberg's Moritz Dress ($375) lets you show that waist and those arms we just talked about. In the office, layer a short sleeve cardigan, like The Limited's Dolman Pointelle Cardigan ($49.50) over the look for a more conservative air.
2. Mom was right! Stand up straight and you'll instantly get the illusion of shedding a few pounds.
3. Watch your fabrics—love that tweed, knit or satin skirt? Depending on your body type they aren't as flattering as you might think. If you have more of an hourglass or pear shape bulkier fabrics might draw unwanted attention to your hips. Wearing an A-line skirt in a lightweight wool or cotton will draw attention to your waist since it floats away from your body. Our picks? MICHEAL Micheal Kors A-Line Skirt ($59.50) and Jones New York's Black Flared Skirt ($99).
4. Want your legs to look lean and longer? It's as simple as sporting a pointed heel or plain ol' flats. You visually get that extra length that's essential if you're petite or short of stature. Look debonair in Nine West's classic Barbe Black Pump ($49.99), or have some fun with a bold flat, like this hot pink Newsy style.
5. Yes, we know pleats are a trend this season, but they can make you 10 pounds heavier and won't camouflage any problem areas. Stick to a flat front pant for a slimming effect. Our faves are: Calvin Klein Suiting Extended Tab ($79.98) and The Gap's Slimmed Cropped Khaki Pants ($49.50).
Use these tips at work (and everywhere) to look toned and gorgeous!
