Jill Geisler, author of Work Happy: What Great Bosses Know, has helped thousands of managers become better bosses -- and true leaders. As head of the respected Poynter Institute’s Leadership and Management programs, she teaches, coaches and consults in organizations in the US and abroad. Her “What Great Bosses Know” podcasts on iTunes U have been downloaded millions of times worldwide, according to Apple.

Geisler brings humanity and humor to her work, along with a lifetime of managerial experience and a Master’s degree in leadership studies. Her presentations inform, inspire, and are always based on a foundation of research and practical application in the real world of work. She’s engaged smart and demanding audiences, among them the management teams of the Washington Post, NPR, NBC, CNN, the Boston Globe, the Associated Press and their counterparts abroad. She also presents to leaders and managers in all professions, because she understands the essential skills and values necessary for their success.

Geisler’s communication skills were honed early as a broadcast journalist. She traded her anchor chair to for the corner office when she became one of the country’s first female TV news directors at the tender age of 27. Between then and now, she’s launched the careers of great employees, dealt with extraordinary change and challenge as a manager and has been inducted into the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences’ Silver Circle for her lifetime contributions to the industry. She’s also gained widespread recognition as a dynamic teacher and speaker on leadership, managing change, motivation, performance management, ethics, coaching and feedback, effective communication, as well as the role of women in leadership.

Geisler lives in Bayside, Wisconsin and commutes to her faculty work at the Poynter Institute in St. Petersburg, FL. She is married and the mother of two young adult sons. They say their mom has always been bossy, but they love her anyway.
