Caitlin Kiernan

Journalist and Fashion Columnist for The Times Herald- Record

Caitlin began her journalism career as a feature writer and fashion columnist for The Times Herald-Record, a Dow Jones-owned newspaper, covering six counties in upstate NY. In her weekly column, “Fashion Plate Cait,” she covered stories from the runways of NYFW to Hollywood’s red carpet season. During this time, she contributed to The Wall Street Journal, writing about trademark infringement and intellectual property woes in the fashion industry. In her next role as beauty director for Life & Style Weekly, Caitlin spent eight years tapping celebrities for their hair and makeup secrets while breaking news about buzz-worthy innovations in the beauty world.

During her career, Caitlin has established herself as a beauty/style/and health expert with the inside scoop. She has appeared on both national and local television programs including E! News, Access Hollywood, Entertainment Tonight, Fox News, The Sundance Channel, the Wendy Williams Show and Bravo’s RHONY. Her freelance work has appeared in The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Women’s Health, Fitness, Men’s Journal, Maxim Refinery29, SU2Cancer, Harpers Bazaar, People StyleWatch and Yahoo Travel.

In July 2014, Caitlin wrote a first person story for The New York Times titled, “A Tattoo That Completes a Breast.” The story was about the last phase of breast reconstruction: nipple tattoos. The story was accompanied by a video, “The Nipple Artist,” which chronicled her journey to get the procedure. The story and video went viral generating more than 10 million hits in less than two weeks. It is the second most viewed video in New York Times history – only outranked by Barack Obama’s inauguration speech.

That NYT piece became the springboard for Caitlin’s first book, Pretty Sick: The Beauty Guide For Women with Cancer. The book, published by Hachette/Grand Central, empowers patients and survivors with advice, tips and tricks from the nation’s top dermatologists, hairstylists, makeup artists, manicurists and dentists. It also offers first-hand advice from fellow survivors Joan Lunden, Hoda Kotb and Sandra Lee on how to feel good and look healthy while undergoing treatment.Pretty Sick features full-color artwork by fashion illustrator Jamie Lee Reardon (Dior, NYC Ballet, Nike) and hit stands in September 2017.

In 2015, Caitlin helped launch Amazon’s first live-streaming fashion and beauty show, Style Code Live. As the lead beauty producer she oversaw the production of the daily beauty segments, booked all the guests, and produced digital vignettes with beauty influencers. She was also responsible for overseeing e-commerce partnerships and implementing beauty brand integrations.
